Week 2

Highlights from Week 2

Hey Family,
So another week has come and gone! I seriously cannot believe it! It has flown by!! I leave a week from today! Freaking out! I forgot what people look like without name tags on. ha ha.

I made up a rap for our district that had inside jokes and other things like that in it. The district seemed to really like it. The elders liked it so much they made me write it out and made copies for each person. ha ha. They also all got it on film.

A few of you have asked me about what they do here for Thanksgiving. Its actually really nice because since its a holiday none of our teachers are working. So we don't have any class. We will have study time, and at lunch we get a nice thanksgiving dinner. For dinner though they don't have anyone working so we just have to get a sack lunch earlier in the day for dinner. Also that night like I mentioned one of the apostles will be speaking at a devotional, and since I'm saying the closing prayer I get to sit next to him on the stand! I wont find out who is speaking until that day but I'm really excited to find out who!

I just wanted to thank you all so so much for all the support! I have gotten at least a letter everyday and I've already received 6 packages! My district calls me the package queen. Anytime a package slip comes they are always like well duh its for Sister Turner. ha ha. Its probably just because I live so close compared to the others.

My favorite thing here by far is the devotionals! They are all so amazing, and the spirit is so strong! The stories are so amazing that I hear too! If any of you get a chance look up the YouTube video of helping hands NEW York. Or something along those lines? Its an 8 min. video clip on how the LDS church has been helping with the hurricane over in NY. Super cool!

Also, at the beginning of relief society a few sisters give a talk on their conversion stories, and how they converted to their church! All of their stories are INCREDIBLE! A lot of them have been rejected by family and friends. I was in the gym early in the morning the other day and I was talking to a senior missionary. She had just joined the church a little over a year ago, and some of her children totally disowned her. She had 3 kids get married this summer and none of them even invited them to their weddings. So sad to me. She knows this church is true though and she knew she needed to go on a mission to help others see that! So much faith in people I meet here! Its incredible!

The lessons we're teaching are going really well. We have been teaching this guy John and we had the most amazing lesson with him! It seriously was amazing! The spirit was so strong and we got him to commit to baptism (remember these are just mock) but he has been tough! He has never even considered baptism. But we taught so dang good and the spirit was so strong there was no way he could say no! ha ha. We have had one other baptism commitment with an investigator, and the other 4 we're teaching are progressing well.

I'm excited to get out of the MTC, but at the same time so so nervous for the real world! Like people's salvation's depend on me! Its a scary thought! ha ha. I don't think i can download pics from this computer so i'll just have to wait to send you some when I get out in the field! Love you all! Until next week!!

Love,
Sister Turner

Week 1

Sister Turner entered the MTC on Wednesday, November 7. Here she is right before we dropped her off. It sounds like she's doing great so far! Here are the highlights from her first letter.

My companions are great!! Yes I said companions. I am in a trio which is fun. My companions are Sister Greenwood and Sister Stoker. Sister Greenwood is from Washington. She has such a strong testimony though, and she knows SO much about the gospel so she helps me out a lot! Sister stoker is Amazing!! I know we are going to be friends for the rest of our lives! She is from Idaho but has been going to the Y for the past 3 years and is in the accounting program. She has such a cute style, is so fun and bubbly, and is very similar to me. We both played the same position in soccer in high school, and we both like the same movies, and music and stuff.

The MTC is hard. We have 16 hour days. 6 of those hours are usually for studying, and another 6 are for classes. I guess we have one of the nicest classroom buildings on campus. Other Elders and Sisters refer to it as the Celestial building. I guess it just got remodeled and we have top of the line technology and white boards unlike other classroom buildings. ha. The rest of the day is usually meetings, teaching investigators, and firesides, and then we get a half hour to eat our meals but that time flies!

P-days are really nice! We get email time, and get to go to the temple, and work out and have some free time. We still have 3 hours of class at night though. We found a hidden gym hardly anyone knows about that is SO nice! Its like my outlet. They have awesome equipment and weights, and they have huge flat screen TVs that play Mormon Messages and like the Joseph Smith movie etc. ha. So we are going to start going there instead of the other gym that is just crazy full of peeps. I mean elders and sisters. ha. We aren't ever allowed to refer to anyone as peeps, dudes, or even guys. Its SO hard for me! ha ha. you know how dude is my favorite word. Also you don't realize how much you say the phrase "guys" referring to anyone until you come to the MTC.

Oh so something kind of cool!! I got asked to say the closing prayer at the Thanksgiving Devotional on thanksgiving. In front of thousands of missionaries!! Super nerve wracking, even though its just a prayer! ha. The cool thing is though I get to sit up on the stand which means I get to sit next to the apostle whoever ends up speaking for that fireside! So i'm way stoked!!

Well that's all i can think of right now. Know i'm doing good. Still have lots to learn, but every day gets a little better. I know this is church is true!!! And I know our father in heaven loves us all!! Hope all is well and I pray for all of you every day!!

Sister Turner
